Star Wars is a series of films for the ages. It inspires with its incredible soundtrack, fanciful worlds, a myriad of plot twists, but perhaps most importantly, a long list of compelling characters. There are so many different ones to choose from but some of the most compelling in the entire series are the Jedi. Who wouldn’t want to be able to use the force or to swing around lightsabers like a Jedi? Here are five of the most badass Jedi from Star Wars:

Anakin Skywalker

A young boy in many of the films, Anakin Skywalker is still not to be messed with. He is an incredible pilot, in a large part because of his incredible connection with the force. Born as a slave on the corrupt planet of Tatooine, Anakin Skywalker was freed by Qui-Gon Jinn who was unfortunately not able to also save his mother from slavery. Out of fears about how powerful Anakin Skywalker could become (which end up becoming very justified), the Jedi council originally does not agree to train Anakin but only does later because of Qui-Gon.

Obi-Wan Kenobi

Obi-Wan Kenobi is one of the most important Jedi throughout the entire Star Wars series. He takes many roles; the pupil of Qui-Gon Jinn, the master of Anakin Skywalker, and later, the master of Luke Skywalker, Anakin’s son. Obi-Wan himself is an incredible fighter but throughout the series frequently finds himself in moments of doubt. One great example of this is before he is found by Luke he is just living in the desert as a hermit. This could be in part due to his regret from training Anakin, who would eventually become the evil Darth Vader.

Qui-Gon Jinn

Qui-Gon Jinn is a figure in the early films and one of the key drivers of the plot. The master of Obi-Wan Kenobi, Qui-Gon is very much in tune with his senses and the force. He is not as powerful as either Obi-Wan or Anakin, but he is very wise. It was his decision to risk his ship on a bet to get Anakin out of slavery, which he did because he believed Anakin was the Chosen One, a prophesized individual who would bring balance to the force. Despite the Jedi council’s desire to not train Anakin, Qui-Gon continuously insisted, and in fact made it his dying wish. The Jedi council and Obi-Wan ultimately agreed to train Anakin because of this request.

Yoda is perhaps the most venerable but also maybe the most badass of the Jedi. An incredibly recognizable green crinkly figure, Yoda can often be sited walking around slowly hunched over with his staff. Don’t let that fool you though because when he needs to Yoda is one of the most ferocious fighters in all of Star Wars. He has incredible skill with his lightsaber, is very agile, and has an incredibly strong command of the force. Yoda also plays a role in the training of Luke, when Luke finds him on Dagoba.

Mace Windu

Mace Windu is one of the most powerful of the Jedi. A member of the Jedi council, Mace Windu was also a critical General in the clone wars leading troops into battle. He fights with a unique looking purple lightsaber. On top of being a tier a fighter, Mace Windu is one of the more clever Jedi in Star Wars. He figures out that Emperor Palpetine is actually Darth Siddeus and confronts him, beating him in combat before being betrayed by Anakin Skywalker.
