Thanks to Elon Musk and Tesla, electric luxury vehicles are entering the mainstream. We’ll share with you our editor’s top 5 picks in the luxury electric vehicle category. Though Tesla tops the list we have some of the cars from mainstay luxury auto makers such as BMW and Audi as well.
Tesla Model S
The Tesla Model S was one of the first luxury electric sedans to hit the market and has one of the longest ranges. The starting price is north of $75,000 but it comes with an impressive 270 mile range up to 340 miles. It comes with lifetime access to the Tesla Super Charger network and the premium software features such as self driving mode, etc.
Tesla Model 3
The Tesla Model 3 is the new younger brother of the Model S. It's a bit smaller, but it's got a starting price just short of $40,000 making it much more accessible. Unforunately, depending on the trim and package the Super Charger Network is not always free and the car has a shorter standard range, but all of the extra bells and whistles can still be purchased for cheaper than a Model S
It's lower on the list than the Tesla combination because of the high price with low standard range. The Audi e-tron starting at $75,000 has a 205 mile battery. The car is still an Audi and comes with all of the unique traits of German engineering and definitely has a more standard interior (as opposed to the single screen display of the Tesla).
Tesla Model X
The Tesla Model X doesn't make it quite into our top 3 because of it's extremely high price point. It's got one of the higest safest ratings from the IIHS and it's got incredible range, but the car has a starting price of almost $90,000. However, if you're looking for a Tesla with a lot of space and have something to tow, this car has incredible torque, horse power, great range, and feels like you're driving a rocketship!
The BMW i3 is our favorite city commuter electric vehicle. It doesn't boast the range of the e-tron or the Tesla combination, but it's got a decent starting price ponit at $44,000 has a real used market since the car has been out for a couple of years. The car is small, but spacious and fits well into small parking spaces and can hit tight turns. The BMW i3 is the car for you if you're looking for a luxury electric sedan to make your daily commute easier.
