Virtual reality has been growing in popularity in the past few years with more and more products available to enter into the VR world. Below we list our top five recommended VR systems.
The Oculus Quest followed the Oculus Rift and is a standalone, wireless VR headset. There is tracking for the entire room so you don't have to worry about running into walls or limiting your range of movement. You can also connect the Oculus Quest headset to smart TVs or smart phones to share the VR experience. Starting with the Oculus Quest, there is also a social element where you can connect with other players for multiplayer games. With the Oculus Quest, you also have access to the Oculus store which has over 1000 games and content to choose from.
THe Oculus Go is one of the most affordable options in the market and is a standalone, wireless VR headset. It has the same high resolution (1280 x 1440) as other Oculus products but the Oculus Go doesn't have tracking for the entire room so there is a limit in freedom of movement. The Oculus Go has great integration with other Oculus products like the Oculus Quest and Oculus Rift allowing you to have multiplayer experiences. Like other Oculus products, you have access to the Oculus store to get more content.
Sony's Playstation VR is one of the most affordable options available that still offers an incredible experience for the price. There is an extensive library of games to choose from (with more games being added over time!) and great customer support. The 120Hz per second refresh rate for the Playstation VR headset is one of the highest in the market and can also be used to watch movies when not playing games. The Playstation VR also can integrate with consoles bringing VR to well known games.
THe HTC Vive has excellent integration with accessories when using Vive Trackers that allow you to bring any real world item that you choose into the VR world. There are other add-ons you can purchase like TPCast (makes the HTC Vive 100% wireless) and the Deluxe Audio Strap (headphones) which makes the experience fully immersive and more real. There isn't as much content to choose from as the Oculus store but there is an optional subscription service to try 5 games a month.
Oculus Rift S
The Oculus Rift S is an upgraded version of the original Oculus Rift that is iconic in the VR world. It has a better resolution (1280 x 1440) than the original (1200 x 1080) and a refresh rate of 80Hz per second for smooth picture. As an upgrade, the audio has been integrated into the wearable headband which is much lighter at only 1 pound. There is no need for external sensors because the Oculus Rift S has tracking for the entire room. Finally, you'll have access to the Oculus store where you can choose from a huge variety of games for good prices.
